Zhejiang Launches First International Commercial Mediation Promotion Month

The launching ceremony of the International Commercial Mediation Promotion Month was held in Hangzhou on May 8, jointly organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhejiang Provincial Committee (CCPIT Zhejiang), Zhejiang Provincial Department of Justice, and the Higher People’s Court of Zhejiang. The event centered on the theme “Commercial Mediation Safeguarding Enterprises Going Global”.

CHEN Jianzhong, President of CCPIT Zhejiang, QIAN Dehai, Deputy Director of Zhejiang Provincial Department of Justice, XU Huichun, Vice President of the Higher People's Court of Zhejiang Province, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The ceremony was presided over by Yan Jia, Vice President of CCPIT Zhejiang. The event attracted over 200 participants, including representatives from CCPIT, the judicial department, the court, legal experts, mediators, and business representatives, while nearly 30,000 people joined online.

CHEN Jianzhong stated in his speech that commercial mediation is a vital "legal shield" for enterprises facing global business challenges. He urged regular publicity, enhanced inter-departmental cooperation, and emphasized the importance of compliance for enterprises' global development. QIAN Dehai called for improving institutional mechanisms and increasing public awareness to push forward mediation reforms. XU Huichun emphasized that international commercial mediation serves as a platform to display the remarkable accomplishments of Chinese judicial civilization and highlight China's "Eastern Experience" in dispute resolution.

The ceremony witnessed the signing of four significant agreements. Zhejiang International Chamber of Commerce partnered with Hong Kong International Mediation Centre on cross - border mediation, while Zhejiang Commercial Legal Service Center collaborated with Zhejiang Notaries Association. Mediation institutions from Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, and Jiangxi also joined the "International Commercial Mediation Cloud Platform". In addition, a "Mediation Priority Initiative" was jointly issued, and a training base for the talents in international commercial mediation was inaugurated. The organizers also released the "Top 20 Typical Cases of International Commercial Mediation in Zhejiang".

LUO Weixiong from the Hong Kong International Mediation Centre and LU Haisheng from Hangzhou Customs shared insights on mediation techniques and strategies for coping with US tariff impacts.

In the following weeks, 11 cities in Zhejiang will carry out over 20 related activities highlighting the advantages of commercial mediation. Zhejiang aims to utilize commercial mediation as a key asset to facilitate global economic cooperation and ensure the stable overseas expansion of local enterprises.
