When chromium nickel austenitic stainless steels' resistance (PREN=[Cr]+3.3[Mo]+16[N]) is greater than or equal to 40%, such steels can be called super austenitic stainless steels. Super austenitic stainless steels are developed primarily for the deficiency of original high molybdenum (greater than 4%) chromium nickel austenitic stainless steels in pitting and crevice corrosion resistance and the poor thermal stability under severe corrosion conditions of Cl-.
